And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. (Colossians 3:17) NRSV

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21) NRSV

OUR PURPOSE

The Administration and Finance Committee purpose is to provide stewardship of the many resources, gifts, talents and treasures that we have been given by God to carry out God's purpose in the world.  We do this in the life of our congregation here in Brigantine by working in four distinct areas: Financial Management; Special Events & Fundraising; Maintenance of the Buildings & Grounds; and Stewardship.

ADMINISTRATION & FINANCE COMMITTEE DUTIES

Financial Management:

- provides for the oversight of all funds and accounts that are held under the aegis of the Session and the Congregation.

- prepares the Annual Budget in consultation with other committees and groups in the Church for presentation to the Session for its approval.

- is responsible for the oversight of investments of our offerings and gifts.

- assists other committees and groups of the Church and the Session to raise funds in an orderly and effective manner.

Special Events & Fundraising:

- provides oversight to the Thrift Shop Ministry.  We select the Thrift Shop Manager and confer with them from time to time.  It is our responsibility to insure that the Thrift Shop fulfills its purpose as a Ministry of our Church that reflects the grace of God.

- supports the SummerFest as our annual festival and major fundraiser.  We appoint a SummerFest Coordinator and assist that person in garnering the support of the entire Congregation and community in working together to raise funds and have a grand old time as well!

- organize an Election Night Turkey Dinner in November each year by appointing a coordinator and assist that person in leading the Congregation in enthusiastic participation!

Maintenance of Grounds and Building:

- provide for the needs of the building through maintenance and capitol improvements as resources allow.

- lead the Congregation in care of the building by sponsoring "Clean Up" days twice yearly.  We try to encourage members and friends to donate their time and talents to the care of the building to reduce costs for maintenance and improvements.

Stewardship:

- our Committee is responsible for educating ourselves and others about Stewardship, a biblical concept that teaches us that all things belong to God and that we manage God's resources for God's purposes, not simply our own.  Stewardship encourages us to use gifts, talents, and treasures wisely for promoting the values and mandates of the Gospel, one of which is to share what we have for the well being of everyone, everywhere, to the glory of God.

- we have been directed by the Long Range Plan of our Congregation, to increase participation in stewardship among members, defined as the giving of time, talent, and treasures to the glory of God, for our mission in the world and for the common good of the people of God.

- plan and organize a yearly Stewardship Pledge Drive that enables each family or individual in the Church to consider planned giving for the coming year.  We pledge our support for our common ministry and then we work to fulfill our pledge.  We are constantly encouraging one another to move toward the biblical standard of the Tithe (10%) as our goal.

YOU CAN HELP

What can you do to help us?

Make Your Annual Pledge - When we are preparing each year's budget, it's helpful to be able to count on your pledge for the entire year.  In that way, we can plan our entire year's spending.

Volunteer for the Thrift Shop - Our Thrift Shop personnel are comprised completely of volunteers.  In this way we keep costs down and all proceeds go directly to the annual budget.
