August 5, 2020 Message

Dear Members and Friends,

August for me was time spent with Jim and Jeane, (my mom and dad). As a pastor, my dad took the month of August off and it suited my mom because, for many years, she was our High School Librarian who had August off as well. Sometimes we would travel across northern New York to see family and friends in Rochester; or weeks of Church Camp as a family, helping out as my Dad would volunteer as “Director”. One summer, Sister Bonnie was the Camp Nurse while sister Beth watched the waterfront! Our favorite place was “Scotland Yard”, or as my kids remember it, “the cottage”, a rustic cabin on a lake in the higher elevation of southwestern New Hampshire. This year will be a little different, but August remains my favorite time of year!

My parents were part of “America’s Greatest Generation”… “The Builders”, those who may have endured both WWI, the Depression, WWII, Korea, the Cold War, and VietNam - not to mention “the 60s” which some folks found traumatic as well - they were a steady, stoic kind of people. There wasn’t too much that stressed them to the breaking point. I hope, with me, you can remember them in times such as this. They endured a lot. We can too! Keep the faith.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

A short note for the Administration and Finance Committee: So far our financial health is not critical but we are wrestling with replacing losses in our planned income that are substantial:

  • Thrift Shop off $20,000

  • Building Use off $15,000

  • Loss of Summer Fest off $13,500

Some of this loss is offset by the Payroll Protection Program grant of $21,000, and the Board of Pensions of the Presbyterian Church waived $10,000 of the cost for Medical/Pension bills for three months. What can you do to help? If you pledge, please bring your giving up to date. If you give regularly, please keep doing so. If you are able and it doesn’t take the bread off your table, make a special gift to help us raise the amount in our budget that comes from individual donors. There is also a DONATE button on the top of the website where you can easily donate to our church through PayPal.
