August 26, 2021 Message

Dear Members and Friends,

I’m glad to report that Annie has been a model patient! Her surgeon is thrilled with the outcome of her foot surgery. Dr. Katz told us that 25% of the success is because of what he did, but 75% is based upon our following his directions for care after the surgery! Annie has kept off her feet (no small feat), kept her foot elevated and iced continually. By next Friday, she will be able to walk on her foot in a surgical “boot”. The best part of all of this is that Annie had very little pain as a result of the operation. And I have an entirely new appreciation for all of you who are care givers… who tend to the needs of people you love. Its not an easy job anticipating what others need and providing it in a loving and caring manner. The job taxes both physical stamina and mental capacity. Its just exhausting! But Annie and I have enjoyed the time together although there were lots of other options we would prefer for spending the last three weeks of August. Session meets tonight to welcome new members and approve baptisms in September. At the end of the meeting, our Executive Presbyter Dr. Debra Brincivalli will join the Zoom meeting to discuss with Session what will transpire in the coming months after my retirement. Other committee meetings will resume in September! How can it be that summer is over already? We will all be glad to welcome Brenda Rupp back following a weeks vacation. Thanks to all those who volunteered to work in the office, answer the phone and meet folks who come to the door. Pantry volunteers kept the work moving ahead but I’m sure they will be glad Breda is back! The Thrift Shop has been doing an outstanding job on Saturdays throughout the Summer. Donations come all at once on Saturdays so that we have volunteers here, ready to sort, price and pitch. What used to take three different days is now accomplished on Saturday… and all of our regular donors of clothing, small household items, books and movies… are getting used to not just dropping off… but waiting for Saturdays to make their donations. Hope to see you in church on Sunday mornings! Have a great time with what's left of this summer and please stay safe and healthy.
