October 27, 2020 Message

Dear Members and Friends,

“Home is the place where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in!” (Robert Frost from his poem, "The Death of the Hired Man")

That place for me was wherever my mom was. Jeane has been gone for 26 years come November 4th this year. Many people I know rarely forget the day they lost their mom because that’s the day we come to an awareness of our own fragility, that we are sort of like orphans in the world, because we may not have that place we think of as home anymore. About the same year I lost my mom, I started to take more seriously the call to celebrate All Saints Day in the church calendar, (November 1st). Especially this year, I think it's important to take time to mourn the loss of people that have lifted us up. Awareness and acknowledgement of our grief goes a long way to treating it successfully. One of our verses for this week's worship is fitting:

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted” (Matthew 5:4)

In this year 2020, the year of the COVID19 Pandemic, there have not been a lot of funerals. Please consider taking time to join us in worship this Sunday, November 1st, to give thanks! Use this link: www.facebook.com/brigchurch.org. Take the time to remember those that you have lost, (in the past year or maybe 26 years ago). When we mourn, we will be comforted!

Make sure to get your tickets, ($15.00) for Turkey Dinner (take out only!) on Election Night, November 3rd from 4 PM to 7 PM. You can drive up the alley behind the church from Revere Blvd, or walk in the front door of the Sanctuary on 15th Street - or if needed, you can call for delivery! Will that be Apple or Pumpkin pie with your dinner?

THANK YOU to everyone who came to “fix it up” at the church building last Saturday. Especially, Bill & Steve Schneider, Dorie Herndon, John Ferguson, Pam Schneider, Annie Scotland, Brenda Rupp and Rachel Paul! You can still pick a project and do it on your own, just ask in the office what still needs attention and do it on your own schedule. Thank you!

Have concerns about returning to live worship? Please let your ideas and opinions be known to the small committee of folks working on a re-entry plan. Sonia Wagner and Kim Grahsler are elders leading this work group. Chikita Wallace, Paul Robinson, Gina Kerley and Luanne Usinger are anxious to hear your thoughts. Why not give them a call or email them to share what you think.
